Where to hold at range
Match the app to your real drops
Shot at a near-to-mid distance and drop is off? Solve your true muzzle velocity first.
How many clicks?
Enter where your group landed relative to point of aim. AHL Sight tells you which way to turn the turrets and how many clicks.
Estimate distance with your reticle
Measure a known-size object in your reticle (mils or MOA). AHL Sight solves the range.
Range by camera framing
Point your camera at a known-height target and frame it top-to-bottom. Uses your device's field of view. One-time calibration makes it accurate.
Measure your group from a photo
- Load or shoot a photo of your target.
- Set scale: tap two points a known distance apart (e.g. 1" grid, bull diameter).
- Aim point: tap where you were aiming.
- Shots: tap each hole. AHL Sight reports group size and the exact correction to center it.
Target Captures
Every saved target photo, marked up with its measured group and the correction you dialed. Stored locally on this device.
My Rifles
Save a rifle + load + scope so every tool uses it instantly. The active profile drives Zero, Drop, Dial and Rangefinder.

Get sighted-in fast
- Set your load: On the Zero tab, pick your cartridge or type your muzzle velocity, BC, bullet weight and sight height.
- Get a zero: Pick your target/vital zone. AHL Sight gives a recommended zero distance and your max point-blank range.
- At the range: Shoot a group. On Dial-In, enter how far the group missed — get exact clicks.
- Confirm: Use Target Cam to measure the group from a photo and auto-calculate the correction.
- Build a DOPE card: Drop & DOPE gives holds/dials to any distance. Save it to My Rifles.
Understanding drop
Gravity starts pulling the bullet down the instant it leaves the muzzle. Because your scope sits above the bore, the bullet actually starts below your line of sight, rises up through it (near zero), arcs over, and crosses back down (far zero). Past that, it drops away fast. Your job is to know how much it drops at each distance and hold or dial for it.
Reading your scope: MOA vs MIL
- MOA (minute of angle) ≈ 1.047″ at 100 yd — so ~1″ per 100 yd. Common turrets click ¼ MOA = ¼″ at 100 yd.
- MIL (milliradian) = 3.6″ at 100 yd (3.438 MOA). Common turrets click 0.1 MIL = 0.36″ at 100 yd.
- Subtension grows with distance: 1 mil covers 3.6″ at 100 yd, 7.2″ at 200 yd, 18″ at 500 yd.
- Match your reticle to your turrets (MIL/MIL or MOA/MOA) so holds and dials speak the same language.
Which way to turn
Turrets are marked U/D and L/R for where the impact moves. Group low & left → dial UP and RIGHT. The Dial-In tab does this for you.
Max Point-Blank Range (MPBR)
Pick the biggest target circle you'll always hit (a deer's vitals ≈ 8″). MPBR is the zero that keeps the bullet inside that circle — never more than half its height high or low — for the longest possible span. Inside MPBR you just aim dead center. The Zero tab computes it.
Estimating distance
- Reticle ranging: Range = (target size in inches ÷ (mils read × 3.6)) × 100. The Rangefinder tab does the math either direction.
- Camera framing: If you know a target's height, filling a known fraction of the frame gives distance from your camera's field of view (calibrate once for best accuracy).
FAQ
Where do velocity and BC come from?
The library ships typical factory/match figures. Real muzzle velocity varies with barrel length, temperature and lot. A chronograph reading, entered on the Zero tab, makes every result far more accurate.
My drops don't match at long range.
“True” your data: adjust muzzle velocity a little until the predicted drop matches what you actually see downrange. A 25–50 fps change moves long-range dope noticeably.
Does this account for wind?
Yes — set wind speed and clock direction on the Zero tab and the DOPE table and reticle show wind holds. Spin drift and Coriolis are in the Advanced card for long range.
Is my data private?
Everything is stored locally on your device by default. Nothing leaves your phone unless you turn on Pro cloud sync, which stores your data under your license key. Use the Data tab to back up or move it.

AHL Sight
A field-ready assistant for sighting in rifle scopes: recommended zero and max point-blank range by cartridge and load, ballistic drop and DOPE, MOA/MIL dial-in, reticle rangefinding, and target group analysis from your camera.
Ballistics use a point-mass flat-fire model with the standard G1 drag function. Results are validated against published trajectory data but are planning aids — always confirm on paper.
